Amaryllis belladona

I guess this is as good a place to start as any. This is the plant that gives its name to the whole group, though most folks probably know it as "Naked Lady" which describes it pretty well. The nakedness refers to the behavior known as hysteranthy; a fancy way of saying that the foliage and the flowers occur at different times. It does tend to enhance the flower experience though: there are no distractions from the pinkness. They are sweetly fragrant and make good cut flowers. The foliage on this species is unremarkable; just floppy straps that could as easily belong to daylilies or Agapanthus.

Next let's follow the life cycle of a less common Amaryllid.
