SOUTH AFRICAN AMARYLLIDS KICK BUTT: MANY HYSTERANTHOUS, AWESOME
I don't expect to see this newspaper headline anytime soon, but by
rights I certainly should.
The Amaryllids of South Africa are amoung the most bizarre of the
bulbous plants. Practically everything about them is weird: their
leaves, their flowers, their habits, even their seeds. In fact, many
are so strange that in their country of origin, a special government
permit is required to handle them, and special training is recommended
even before casual viewing. During this slide show, however, you will
have the opportunity to get to know them a bit better without going to
all that trouble, or even having to get up out of your chair.
