Haemanthus coccineus
The genus Haemanthus. Also called 'paintbrushes' from the form of
the flowers, which sometimes look much more brush-like than they do here.
This species has exactly the same habit as the Brunsvigias that we've
just looked at: dormant in summer, flowers from a bare bulb in fall,
leaves during the winter.
